1. Why do the boar bristles feel stiff when they're new, and how do I break them in?
That's completely normal. Before your first shave, soak the brush in warm water for a few minutes to soften the bristles. With regular use and proper drying between shaves, the bristles naturally soften over time for an even more comfortable lathering experience.

2. Is it normal for a new shaving brush to shed a few bristles?

7. Why does my new brush have an earthy or natural smell, and how do I get rid of it?
Because it is made from 100% natural boar hair, a faint natural scent is normal when brand new and wet. You can help neutralize it by lathering the brush with a scented shaving soap or dish soap, letting it sit for 10 minutes, and rinsing thoroughly. The initial natural scent should dissipate after 3–5 shaves.
